SIMA Waterman’s Weekend: Golf Tournament and Ball

Audi Mission Viejo had the privilege to partner with Audi of America in supporting the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) and their annual Waterman's Weekend. To kick off the weekend, SIMA had their 13th Annual Waterman's Classic Golf Tournament at the exquisite Monarch Beach Golf Links; more than 150 surf industry executives and professional surfers came out for a fun day of golf.

The front entrance of the golf course was adorned with Audi R8s on display, as well as the ever-popular vehicle amongst this surf crowd, the 2014 Audi allroad. The parking lot was also lined with numerous “linked rings”, as many golfers were loyal Audi customers. At our hole-in-one contest, one lucky golfer had the chance to load up his surfboards in a 2014 Audi allroad. Unfortunately, many tried – none succeeded. We also had a great time hosting the “Audi Mission Viejo Raceway” at our hole. Decked out with race flags, bullhorns, stop watches, a coned racetrack and 1st place metals, golfers had a chance to go toe-to-toe with their foursome in some good old fashion push-car races. Who would have thought that an Audi push-car made for toddlers, would NOT withstand a few 6 foot tall surfer. Who knew!? Ha ha.

On the second day of Waterman’s Weekend, 675 guests attended the 24th Annual Waterman’s Ball, at The Ritz Carlton, gathering to raise money and support the night’s honorees. Congratulations to International Surfing Association President, Fernando Aguerre, was named the Waterman of the Year. Musician, artist and surfer Brandon Boyd and Incubus were recognized as Environmentalist of the Year. Peter “PT” Townsend was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Founder of Waves for Water, Jon Rose, was given the Special Achievement Award for his work with his relief work with Hurricane Sandy. Congratulations to all of the honorees and to SIMA for raising more than $400,000 benefiting the Environmental Fund.
