SIMA Waterman’s Ball 2012 – Audi Sponsors Fundraiser in Dana Point

SIMA, the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association, celebrated the 12th annual Waterman’s Weekend in Dana Point last week. The Waterman’s Weekend is the official fundraiser for the SIMA Environmental Fund and consists of the Waterman’s Classic, a golf tournament held at the Monarch Links at the St. Regis, and the SIMA Waterman’s Ball, a silent and live auction dinner fundraiser.

Audi of America is one of the Waterman’s Weekend sponsors, and offered one of the best live auction items around –  a 2013 Audi Allroad! Other auction items include a private party of 500 at the House of Blues, a Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Hawaii VIP package for two and a dream trip for two to the exclusive Ninamu Resort in French Polynesia – complete with the incredible chance to dive with Jean-Michel Cousteau – who was honored as the 2012 SIMA Environmentalist of the Year (below). Audi Mission Viejo was on site to support the logistics of the event, setting up the Audi Hole at the golf tournament and providing display vehicles and product/brand knowledge for the Watermen and their guests.

The SIMA Environmental Fund Board of Directors has selected 20 ocean-related, non-profit organizations as beneficiaries of the 2012 Waterman’s Weekend. These organizations will dedicate the funds to programs that will address water quality and ocean pollution issues, defend beaches and surf breaks from development, or provide public education about ocean conservation.

Of course, the event wasn’t all awards and auctions, the big highlight of every Waterman’s Weekend is the SIMA Waterman’s Classic – the golf tournament at the St. Regis Monarch Links that preceeds the Waterman’s Ball. Audi Mission Viejo led the charge at hole #5 with a hole-in-one contest for another 2013 Audi Allroad. Although no one took that Allroad home, golfers certainly enjoyed themselves with ice-cold refreshments provided in Audi “coozies” and live music by The DJNR – Nathan Reynolds. I know we had fun, and look forward to next year!
